School Furnishings and Supplies shipping to the Dominican Republic

Supplies shipped to Instituto de Ayuda al Sordo Santa Rosa, Spring 2012

In cooperation with the Rotary Club of Topsfield, Boxford and Middleton Massachusetts and many other donors, Partners for A Greater Voice shipped a container of school furnishings and supplies to Instituto de Ayuda al Sordo Santa Rosa. Honorary Rotarian Orlando Vargas partnered with Greater Voice to coordinate the shipping of the container. Many other Rotarians joined in the effort to collect and prepare items for shipping. The school for the deaf in Santo Domingo expressed sincere graditude for this support. Translated in English: “This donation of furniture and materials for preschool is heaven-sent, because the classrooms for the little ones require an investment to embellish them, which our school has not been able to do due to economic difficulties. Partners for A Greater Voice’s donations are welcome; it is an excellent beginning of the year gift.”

Helping a Young Girl in Honduras

Tegucigalpa is the capitol of Honduras and is the largest city in the country.  The city’s name is derived from the Nahuatl word teguz-galpa, which means “silver hills”.  Founded by Spanish settlers, the region abounds with business, yet amidst the glimmering hills there are children with hearing loss that need help. Though the Honduran government has proclaimed sign language as the mode of communication for the deaf, Partners for A Greater Voice is working against the grain to foster an understanding of auditory development for Angie. In October 2007 we received a call from Carol Serna who worked for an NGO in Ojojona and where she met Yessenia, the mother of seven year old Angie. Joanne Travers began counseling Carol on hearing loss and auditory development in order to immediately respond and help Angie and her mother. PGV sponsored Angie, donating hearing aids, batteries, and educational materials. Carol and Joanne partnered on a PGV mission in 2009 to conduct workshops for over 70 parents and 30 special education teachers interested in listening and spoken language. Please visit the site below for more information on Angie: http://angiegonzalez.weebly.com/index.html.
